Sola Fide Voice Palangkarya performed in the Folklore category of the international competition and festival “Canta al mar” in Calella 2012. The fascinating choir come from Kalimantan Tengah (central Kalimantan), an Indonesian province on the island of Borneo.
Being on stage they presented traditional songs and dances from their former culture which is shaped by myths. Arms and legs are covered by elaborate tattoos. The motifs of the Dayak people are traditional designs and forms which represent, for example, the status of someone within the community. None of these are insignificant. So the elaborate headdress with the hornbill’s feathers even makes sense. This and much else make this competition category so exciting.
